Yesterday, the Qingdao Branch Railway Bureau (QBRB) launched Shandong's
first environmentally friendly train, the K296 Qingdao-Shanghai.
The QBRB will be introducing 81 new 25G-class trains during this year's
spring transportation season. One of the highlights introduced in this new class
of train is the elimination of traditional train toilets, in preference for a
sewage storage tank. The tank is installed under the bottom of the train and
sewage is collected, rather than drained directly out from under the train. The
sewage collected in these tanks will then be reclaimed by a waste-collecting car
at the destination and processed. This will eliminate railway pollution caused
by human waste. In addition, coal stoves in the kitchen of the dining car will
be substituted by advanced, pollution-free electromagnetic equipment, further
improving the inner environment of the car.
The QBRB has been reported as saying that it will continue to invest in
order to replace existing trains with those of this type. (Li Xiaohua)

青島鐵路分局客運段在青島－上海K296次列車上舉行了以"誠信在春運，文明伴你行"為主題的"文明誠信春運"啟動儀式，并開始啟用新型環保客車車體，這也是我省首列環保列車。
今年春運期間，青島客運段引進了81輛先進的25G型環保車體，并率先為青滬K296次列車配備使用。這種環保車的一大亮點是將目前列車的直漏式廁所改為先進的集便式廁所。即在車體底部（廁所下面）安裝了一個集便箱，使廁所內的污物不能直接排放到車下，而是被儲存在箱體內，列車到終點站后由集便車統一回收，由此避免了直漏式廁所給鐵路沿線造成的污染。此外，這種環保列車餐車廚房淘汰了燃煤爐灶等老一代設備，取而代之的是先進的無污染的電磁設備，如內嵌式電磁爐等，使車廂環境進一步改善。
據悉，鐵路部門今后還將陸續投資，將所有青島出發的旅客列車全部換上這種環保車體。（本報記者）
